Shopify Summit 2022
Shopify came to BUCK to create a graphics package for their 2022 conference. The visuals for the conference revolved around the story of Nonna, an Italian grandmother who uses Shopify to sell her homemade olive oil.
With olive oil in mind, the graphics for the conference ended up being smooth, elegant, and inspired by the fluidity of olive oil. We ended up creating 25 cinemagraphs, a show package of transitions/title cards to be used during the conference itself, as well as a 30 second video about the video of olive oil.
This was my contribution to the edit above. This scene in particular, as well as this job on the whole, was a great exercise in animating gradients and light play, and managing behemoth Photoshop files for animation.
Cinemagraphs
Below are the Cinemagraphs that I animated. Since these were going to be playing on screen at the conference for an unknown amount of time, each cinemagraph had to be a loop. It was a great test of restraint - and forced us to try and find the right balance of motion to static illustration. It was easy to over animate and lose the elegance.
Graphics Package
Below are a few of the transitions that I made during the R&D phase. Some made it into the final, others didn’t. Overall, it was a fun exploration on how to make a transition feel like liquid wiping the screen. The final transitions were eventually delivered as toolkits, so that a piece of footage could be dropped in and rendered without issue.
