App Tracking Transparency
Apple Privacy
Role: Animator
In 2021, I worked with a stellar team at BUCK to showcase the new “Ask App not to Track” feature on iOS devices. In true Apple fashion, we had the opportunity to animate crisp graphic designs to showcase the new privacy feature in a clean, elegant way. The spot is rich in visual metaphors, and was a combination of 2D & 3D animation, which came together to create a cohesive, seemingly entirely 2D final product.
Contribution
Below are the sections that I was in charge of animating. This first section of the “webs” attaching to the orb was animated in Cinema 4D. Originally I had built this in After Effects, but decided that the depth of field on the strings wasn’t easy enough to control, so I re-built it in 3D, which made the achieving the blurs much more simple.
The following two clips were all animated in After Effects using 2.5D space, some nulls to paths, and a lot of essential graphics properties to maintain as much control over the strokes as possible.
The light/dark background was used as a visual indication of the subject matter. Dark background represented bad/negative effects, when the voice over is talking about user data being tracked. the lighter background was used when talking about the Privacy features, so speak to the positive benefits that the feature presented to users.
